Canada has the highest percentage of foreign born citizens almost any other country. Today, Canada prides itself on its acceptance and celebration of cultural diversity. As a country, it welcomes people of all races, religions and from all walks of life. “Canada welcomed more than 13.4 million immigrants during the past century, the largest number having arrived during the 1990s. According to the 2001 Census, 18.4% of the population was born outside Canada, the highest proportion in 70 years” (Statistics Canada 2003). As Canada’s population continues to grow, and people all around the world develop, Canada will continue to welcome all those in need of sanctuary.
